Thinking Photography / Writing Photography

The Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie have joined forces to promote academic exchange in the field of photography. The "Thinking Photography. DGPh Research Award" is awarded for approaches in the humanities, cultural or social sciences which make an exceptional contribution to photography research. Photography is no longer debated and reflected upon exclusively in scientific publications – an innovative digital culture of discussion has permeated the field of photography. The second new award "Writing Photography. DGPh Prize for Innovative Publication" recognizes shorter formats such as blogs, columns and reviews, online publications and those creatively merging text and photographic material.
The submission deadline for both prizes is 30 September 2020.

Photobook Award 2020

The theme of the photobook award is Changing realities ‒ what lies behind the horizon? Human societies are constantly changing. The horizon is new for every generation, for every human. Where there were once borders, today there are none. Where people used to move freely, they are now constrained by private property, surveillance and effects of climate change. How do people shape their lives among constant change?
Photobook projects should be broadly connected to the topic and try to uncover the changing realities of our world in many different areas.
The final date to receive the books is the 1st of September 2020

With nighttime projections on the pavement of the Kurfürstendamm in Berlin, different realities of life from all over the world become visible in an urban context on October 2020.
